Kalbi Steak marinade
Submitted by Dorothy
Kalbi Steak marinade INGREDIENTS:
5 -7 pounds Korean style beef short ribs OR flank steak (we used 1.5lbs of flank steak)
1 cup sugar
1 cup soy sauce
1/4 cup mirin (rice wine)
1 small onion, peeled and finely grated
1 small Asian pear, peeled and finely grated
4 tablespoons minced garlic
3 tablespoons dark sesame oil
1 teaspoon black pepper

DIRECTIONS:
(Note:  I like to remove extra fat from the ribs before I start. You can use brown sugar if you like the caramelly flavor, and I sometimes leave the ribs in sugar overnight in the refrigerator. I usually use low sodium soy sauce, and if you can't find an asian pear, you can use 1/2 of a kiwi. This is to help tenderize the meat. If you don't have mirin, you can use good table wine.)

Sprinkle sugar evenly over beef and mix well to evenly coat. Let marinate at room temperature for about 1 hour.

Prepare marinade:  In a bowl, whisk together remaining ingredients. Transfer beef/steak into a large sealable freezer bag (you may need 2). Add marinade, press out excess air from bags, and seal. Turn bag over several times to ensure beef is evenly coated. Refrigerate for at least 4 hours but preferably overnight.

Heat EZ Grill. Drain excess marinade off beef. Grill short ribs, turning once, to desired doneness, about 3 to 4 minutes per side.

Ready to Enjoy!
